This week WMC SheSource features experts on the shooting of three police officers in Baton Rouge, the Republican National Convention, Donald Trump choosing Mike Pence as his running mate, the recent terror attack in Nice on Bastille Day, the failed coup in Turkey, and the release of an all-female Ghostbusters.

On Sunday, three officers were killed in Baton Rouge. To discuss, we SPOTLIGHT Juliette Kayyem. Juliette is on the faculty at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. She most recently served for President Obama as Assistant Secretary for Intergovernmental Affairs at the Department of Homeland Security. She has spent over 15 years in senior positions in state and federal government, including as Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick’s homeland security advisor and a legal advisor to US Attorney General Janet Reno. Ms. Kayyem is the author of numerous books and articles on counterterrorism and national security, and her column is distributed worldwide by the New York Times wire. With Donald Trump choosing Mike Pence as his running mate, we FEATURE Nichole M. Bauer. Nichole is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Alabama. She studies the challenges facing women in politics as candidate, lawmakers, and voters. Her current research investigates how and when voters rely on gender stereotypes to evaluate female candidates. She uses an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the dynamics of gender stereotypes in political campaigns by incorporating theories from psychology, mass communication, and political science. Bauer received her Ph.D. from Indiana University in 2014, and has a Master’s degrees from George Mason University. To discuss the recent Bastille Day attack in Nice, we FEATURE Carie Lemack. Carie is currently the director of the Bipartisan Policy Center's Homeland Security Project. She brings more than a decade of experience in homeland security, counterterrorism policy, advocacy and public outreach. Previously, Lemack co-founded Global Survivors Network, a global organization for victims of terror to speak out against terrorism and radicalization. She coordinated and inspired events globally and produced an Academy Award-nominated documentary film, Killing in the Name. An attempted coup in Turkey has led to violence and political unrest, to discuss we FEATURE Christina Bache Fidan. Christina has more than 15 years’ experience working on human development, human security, conflict resolution and peacebuilding. She is currently a Research Fellow with the Center for International and European Studies (CIES), located at Kadir Has University, based in Istanbul, Turkey.
