Since 2004, Gaby has been a Director at Gawker Media, the publisher of more than a dozen blog titles including the popular and acclaimed Gawker, Gizmodo, Defamer and Wonkette. One of the first employees at Gawker, she helped to build the company from two sites with little or no advertising revenue and two writers, to a well-established and respected online publishing business with eleven award winning titles, sixty million pageviews per month, over five million unique visitors and a staff of over sixty. From the start Gaby was responsible for Finance, Operations and Legal affairs for Gawker, as well as overseeing new product development and launch of new titles. As the team expanded, she handed off product responsibilities to a Director of Technology and a Managing Editor, and now continues to run Finance, Operations, Legal and Business Development (licensing, international expansion, and special projects like books, mobile, radio and TV).
Prior to Gawker, from 2002-2004, Gaby served as founding employee of Oriel Wines, where she built out the production and distribution operations from inception to brand launch of a new global wine brand. Previously, she was Director of Strategy at 4charity.com in San Francisco, a provider of custom technology services to the non-profit industry. Before 4charity, she did strategy and legal affairs for eGroups, a global consumer communications platform, acquired by Yahoo! in 2000.Prior to catching the internet bug, Gaby was a barrister in London and a management consultant advising Fortune 500 clients in the high tech and financial services industries. She holds a MA in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University, a law degree from City University, and is a member of the Bar of England and Wales.
